National Insurance Symposiums

The Association organizes annual “National Insurance Symposiums” in order to provide a forum for government officials, academicians, managers of insurance companies, members of the Turkish insurance sector and all other stakeholders to discuss the problems of the Turkish insurance sector and bring alternative solutions.

International Insurance Symposiums

The Association organizes “International Insurance Symposiums” bringing together insurance companies from all over the world, to provide an international forum for discussing common problems, finding alternative solutions and sharing good practices.

- First International Insurance Symposium

“Global Conference on Insurance and Reinsurance for Natural Catastrophe Risk”  was held in cooperation with the Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey and the World Bank

Natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods wreak severe consequences on individual lives, property, and whole economies. Their effects are especially destructive in emerging economies, where a developing financial sector provides fewer mechanisms to mitigate and spread risk. Reducing countries’ exposures to catastrophe risk requires careful management and risk transfer.

Insurance and reinsurance play a vital role in transferring risk and mobilizing savings more broadly across populations, but developing economies face several challenges. Many countries are grappling with underdeveloped insurance sectors, excessive reliance on the government as the reinsurer-of-last-resort, high distribution costs, lack of access to financial services, and poor quality of information about risks. Despite these difficulties, several economies have developed innovative schemes to finance natural catastrophe risk and provide a simple insurance product for households. Their experiences illustrate a variety of approaches to catastrophe insurance, and demonstrate that effective risk transfer can be developed even where the insurance sector is not highly sophisticated.

In this context, The World Bank and the Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey have organized the Global Conference on Insurance and Reinsurance for Natural Catastrophe Risk.

Conference Series

Periodic conferences on subjects which have priority for the Turkish insurance sector, are held by the Association. These conferences provide a forum for insurance companies and public authorities to come together and find common solutions to existing problems faced during the harmonization process with the EU insurance acquis.

Insurance Education Seminars

The Association organizes several “Insurance Education Seminars” throughout the year at universities all around Turkey. Through these seminars, the Association aims at informing students of insurance at undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels about national and international developments in the field of insurance and providing them with the most updated information.
