T. Genel Sigorta General Manager Hulusi Taskiran Elected As the President of the Association
New board members for the Association’s organs were elected in the Regular General Meeting of the Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey.

The General Meeting was presided over by Mr. Cahit Nomer, who successfully carried out the Association Presidency for 12 years. All the items on the agenda were discussed and resolved during the General Meeting and nominees for the presidency T. Genel Sigorta General Manager Hulusi Taskiran, Ray Sigorta General Manager Cetin Alanya and Gunes Sigorta General Manager Mehmet Aydogdu delivered speeches. Following the speeches, elections to the organs of the Association for the next term (2005-2007) took place.

According to the results of the elections, T. Genel Sigorta General Manager Hulusi Taskiran was elected as the President and Aviva Sigorta General Manager Ertan Firat, Anadolu Sigorta General Manager G.Mahir Bayyurdoglu, Koc Allianz Hayat ve Emeklilik General Manager M.Kemal Olgac, Anadolu Hayat Emeklilik General Manager Mustafa Su, Isik Sigorta General Manager Recep Kocak, Garanti Sigorta General Manager Hasan Guller, Aksigorta General Manager I.Ragip Yergin, Isvicre Sigorta General Manager Murat Balci and Ankara Emeklilik General Manager Serdar Citak were elected as Board members.
Yapı Kredi Sigorta General Manager Murat Guvenel, Generali Sigorta General Manager Mustafa Akan, Basak Emeklilik General Manager Tevfik Cansiz were elected as the members of the Board of Supervisors and Garanti Emeklilik ve Hayat General Manager Gokhan Erun, Birlik Sigorta General Manager M.Ali Yucekok and Bati Sigorta General Manager Cengiz Diren as the members of the Disciplinary Board.
The General Meeting was closed with a cocktail attended by members and guests.

“First National Insurance Symposium” has Organized by the Association on 24 May 2005
The Association has organized the “First National Insurance Symposium” with the participation of government representatives, bureaucrats, academicians, sector representatives and EU experts, in order to help the Turkish Insurance sector to comply with the EU standards, gain a competitive advantage and realize a stable growth.

World Bank Financial Sector Operations & Policy Department Lead Specialist Mr. Rodney R. Lester and German Insurance Association(GDV) European & International Affairs Manager Mr. Jürgen Huppenbauer also made presentations at the Symposium.

The sessions of the First National Insurance Symposium were: “EU and Turkish Insurance Sector”, “Tax Practices in the EU and Turkish Insurance Sector”, “Insurance Regulations in the EU and Turkey”, “Risk and Auditing in the EU Harmonization Process”, “Financial Statements and Financial Reporting Standards in the EU Harmonization Process”, “Insurance Business and Actuarial Analysis”.

The sessions drew large audiences from the insurance undertakings, public institutions, financial institutions and universities.

The Association will Organize a Two-Day Seminar in Cooperation with the European Commission TAIEX Unit on 23-24 June 2005
The Association’s project application made on January 17, 2005 to TAIEX (Technical Assistance Information Exchange Unit) of the EU Commission Enlargement Directorate has
been, accepted.

A two-day seminar on “EU Insurance Regulation and Its Implementation” to be presented by leading insurance experts of the EU will be held in Istanbul on 23-24 June 2005.



The Association Arranges IFRS Education Program for the Companies
Considering the acceptance of compliance with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in the Insurance Accounting Systems (with the communication on “Insurance Chart of Accounts and Prospects” which entered into force on 1 January 2005), the Association arranges an education program on the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Insurance Financial Reporting Standards for its member companies in order to inform the sector and to eliminate differences in application.

The two-day education to be provided by Price Waterhouse Coopers at the Association’s premises in June will be given to a total of 90 attendants divided into three groups.



The Association Held an “Insurance Seminar” in Sapanca Vocational School on 11 May 2005
Upon request from the Sapanca Vocational School of the University of Sakarya, the Association organized a comprehensive insurance seminar with the participation of the vocational school students. Booklets, which enshrined the presentations to be made during the seminar, were published by the Association and distributed to the students.

The seminar started with the presentation of Levent Agdas who is in charge of publications and education at the Association and continued with Turkish Insurance Institute Deputy Manager Faruk Omruuzak’s presentation on “The Structure and Evaluation of the Turkish Insurance Sector”; the Education Manager of American Life Hayat Sigorta Dilara Ozgun’s presentation on “Human Resources in the Turkish Insurance Sector”; the EU Specialist of the Association Berna Ozsar’s presentation on “European Single Insurance Market”; DASK (Natural Disasters Insurance Administration) Deputy Manager Bulent Akyuz’s presentation on “DASK” and Yapi Kredi Emeklilik Deputy General Manager Ugur Tozsekerli’s presentation on “Private Pension System”.



“First International Insurance Symposium” will be Held on 8-9 December 2005
The Association will organize the “First International Insurance Symposium” on 8-9 December 2005 with the participation of government representatives, bureaucrats, sector managers, EU experts and academicians.
