The Association met the FATF Delegation

The Association met the delegation of Financial Action Task Force (FATF), on September 12, 2006, within the investigations of FATF, in order to evaluate the Turkish system against money laundering and financing of terrorism.

During the meeting, which was held within “The 3rd Mutual Evaluation Process of Turkey” , the Association made a presentation to the delegation of FATF, covering the mission, vision, structure and activities of the Association, and the Turkish insurance sector in harmonization process with the EU. In the meeting, the information regarding the activities of the Association, in struggling against money laundering, was given as well.
 

The Association participated to the “Seminar on Draft Insurance Law”

The Association participated to the “Seminar on Draft Insurance Law” on August 28, 2006, at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC).

The seminar, which consisted of two sessions, was chaired by Dr. Alaaddin Büyükkaya, Member of Parliament from Istanbul. Ahmet Genç, General Director of Insurance, Undersecretariat of Turkish Treasury, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Oksay, Deputy Secretary General of the Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Samim Ünan, Hüseyin Akyol, the President of Insurance Surveyors’ Foundation, Levent Korkut, Member of ICOC No.87 Committee, participated to the seminar as speakers. At the seminar, the situation of foreign capital in the sector, the problems in legislation, and the draft law were discussed.

At the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Oksay, Deputy Secretary General of the Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey, highlighted that two laws were inacted in the insurance sector, in Turkey, specifying that the second law which was inacted in 1959, was stil in force. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oksay stated that the ex-law could not keep up with the changes, and the problems were tried to solve by decree laws. Adding that the insurance sector was more in contact with the competition, by the foreign actors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Oksay reminded that the sector had to accelarate its efforts in order to compete with the foreign companies. In her speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oksay, presented the opinions of the Association, regarding the positive and the negative points of the draft law.
 

The Association participated to the “Takaful in Life Branch” seminar

The Association participated to the “Takaful in Life Branch” seminar with two representatives, which was organized by Best Re. and Istanbul Underwriting Center, on September 17, 2006.

At the seminar, where general information and current improvements about Takaful applications were discussed, the specialists from Best Re. gave information about Takaful and Re Takaful, applications in non-life, investment fields, applications equivalent to life insurance and the experiences in Malaysia, where such applications were common.
 

The Association participated to the “Settlement of Claims” seminar

The Association participated to the “Settlement of Claims” seminar with a representative, which was organized by Best Re. and Istanbul Underwriting Center, on September 19, 2006.

At the seminar, recent developments regarding the applications in settlement of claims in EU were discussed. The specialists of Global Re. informed the participants about the principles of the plans applied, the legal basis, applications in the EU countries, and the benefits for the creditors and the companies. At the seminar, where a real experience was analysed as well, information about the past of the London market and its current state, the presciences about the future of the market were shared.
 

The Association participated to the opening seminar of Benfield Reinsurance Brokers Istanbul Branch

The Association participated to the seminar, organized for the opening of Benfield Reinsurance Brokers Istanbul Branch, at the Conference Hall of Milli Re., with a representative, on September 21, 2006.

At the seminar where insurance and reinsurance dimensions of catastrophic risks were discussed, the participants were informed by the improvements in the capital markets, new rating criteria and the latest developments in the market.
 

The Association participated to the 39th Conference of IMIA

The Association participated to the Conference of the International Association of Engineering Insurers (IMIA), with two representatives, between September 9-13, 2006.

At the conference, where the working groups, formed in the previous conference, made presentations about “Open Sea Wind Stands”, “Risks of Engineering Insurance in Road Construction”, “Effects of Hurricane Katrina”, “Presentation of Boston-Big Dig Project”, the Turkish delegation made a presentation about the engineering insurance market of Turkey.
 

The Association participated to the “8th Insurance and Reinsurance Conference”

The Association participated to the conference which was held by the Association of Insurance Companies of Greece between September 25-27, 2006.

At the conference, where it was discussed if there had been similarities between the European countries in tariff systems of motor insurances, trend from proportional treaties to non-proportional treaties were analysed, the credibility of natural catastrophe risk models were discussed.
