The Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey (TSRSB) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will convene an “International Seminar on Awareness and Education relative to Risks and Insurance Issues”, on 13 April 2007 at Swissôtel, in Istanbul, Turkey.
The main objective of this seminar is to highlight the need for increased awareness and specific education on risks and insurance issues in both developed and developing countries. The seminar thus aims to enhance the responsiveness of governments, financial institutions and in particular insurance market players as well as consumers with regard to the importance of appropriate information disclosure and education on risks and insurance issues and to examine countries’ experience, progress and good practices in this area. This seminar also aspires, through dialogue and mutual understanding, to develop and strengthen the promotion of risk awareness and education on insurance issues at the national and international level. One of the expected impacts of this seminar is to develop further programmes and initiatives aimed at enhancing risk awareness and education on insurance issues in Turkey and other participating countries and institutions.
High-level governmental officials from regulatory and supervisory authorities, industry experts and academics from OECD countries and non-OECD members’ economies are expected to attend the event. |

As the representative of the entire insurance sector in Turkey, the Association attaches utmost importance to establishing a steady and functioning dialogue platform with other national associations in the Single European Insurance Market. Within this context, the Association paid a study visit to the German Insurance Industry Association (GDV) on 22 March 2007. During the meeting, the Association, its structure and functioning mechanism were introduced by a thorough powerpoint presentation, ideas and experiences were exchanged on various issues including the position of the German insurance market within the European Union and how the market copes with the challenges of the single insurance GDV also made a presentation on its structure and activities. The possibilities of future collaboration and joint activities between the two Associations were also discussed during the meeting. |

The Association participated to the International Insurance and Indemnity Law Conference held on 16 March 2007, in cooperation with Inter Europe Law Service and Kaya & Partners Lawyers and Consultants. During the conference indemnity and the right of recovery were discussed on an international basis. A presentation entitled “Turkish Insurance Market in 2006” was also made by the representatives of the Association. |

The Association participated to the 23rd PROGRES Seminar |

The Association participated to the 23rd PROGRES Seminar of the International Association for the Study of Insurance Economics (Geneva Association) held on 22–23 March 2007 in Geneva, Switzerland. Solvency II, possibilities of better regulation, micro insurance and new developments were among the subjects discussed in the Seminar entitled “Insurance Industry and Regulators in Search of Modern Regulation”.
Karel Van Hulle, the Head of Insurance and Pensions Unit of the Internal Market & Services DG of the European Commission talked about the Lamfalussy structure of the Solvency II Project and the impact of the project on all stakeholders. Alberto Corinti, Secretary General of CEIOPS, by emphasizing that they will prepare the Level 3 measures on supervision, stated their objectives as harmonization of regulations and supervisory procedures, creating a common supervisory culture and facilitating the cooperation among supervisors. On the other hand, Gérard de la Martiniere, the President of the CEA, specified the objectives of the Solvency II Project as deepening the integration of the EU insurance market, improving the protection of policyholders, promoting beter regulation and improving international competitiveness of EU insurers and said that these objectives can only be achieved through a risk based economic approach.
