The Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey wishes you a happy and prosperous New Year  
 

Participation forms and draft program for the TAIEX seminar on “European Legislation on Reinsurance and Insurance Groups” have been sent to members and related authorities

One-day seminar on “European Legislation on Reinsurance and Insurance Groups” is to be held on 8 February 2008 in Istanbul, in cooperation with the Association and TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Unit of DG Enlargement).

During the seminar, Directive 2005/68/EC on reinsurance and Directive 1998/78/EC on supplementary supervision of insurance undertakings in an insurance group will be discussed in detail.

Participation forms and draft program have been sent to member companies and related public authorities by the Association.

130 participants from insurance and reinsurance companies, public authorities and universities are expected to attend the seminar.
 

The Association participated to the CEA Single Market Committee Meeting

On 5 December 2007, the Association participated to the CEA Single Market Committee meeting. The meeting was attended by delegations of national insurance associations, CEA Secretary General and the secretariat of the Single Market Committee.

During the first part of the meeting, Ms. Mateja Janša of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the EU made a presentation on the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency of the EU in the field of financial services.

In the second part of the meeting, issues on the agenda of the Single Market Committee were discussed in detail, as well as the proposed new committee structure of CEA. 

 

The Association participated to the CEA Economics and Finance Committee Meeting

On 10 December 2007, the Association participated to the CEA Economics and Finance Committee (ECOFIN) meeting The meeting was attended by the delegations of national insurance associations and CEA Secretariat.

During the meeting, Solvency II Project was discussed in detail and Ms. Michaela Koller, CEA Secretary General gave information about the lobbying activities held within the context of Solvency II.
 

The Association participated to PwC’s VI. Solution Partnership Platform in Istanbul

On 12 December 2007, the Association participated to PwC’s annually held VI. Solution Partnership Platform in Istanbul. During the event, several sessions were held on managing change in the fiscal agenda, the effects of the draft Turkish Commercial Code, implementation of international taxation practices and corporate risk management.
 

The Association participated to the OECD Coordination Meeting held in Ankara

On 18 December 2007, the Association participated to the Second OECD Meeting hosted by the Turkish Foreign Ministry in Ankara.

During the meeting, H.E. Ambassador Ahmet Erozan, Turkish Permanent Representative to the OECD provided information on the priorities of Turkey for 2008–2010 and the decision-making process at the OECD. During the meeting, the book prepared by the Turkish Permanent Representative entitled “OECD and Turkey: From Yesterday to Tomorrow” was also introduced.

Making better use of OECD instruments and the OLIS system were among the other issues on the agenda. The coordination meeting provided an important forum for participants from different institutions to exchange views and experiences.
