    The Regular General Meeting of the Association was held

     

    The Regular General Meeting of the Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey was held on 27 April 2007.

    During the meeting, 2006 balance sheet, income and expenditure account of the Association and the Report of the Board of Supervisors were read and the Boards of Management and Supervision were acquitted. The Secretariat General made a presentation about the conduct and state of play of affairs and relations with various organizations.

    Following the presentation and approval of the 2007 budget proposal, the elections for the organs of the Association were held. As a result of the elections, Mr. Hulusi Taşkıran was elected once again as the President of the Association. Mr. Ragıp Yergin, Mr. Mustafa Su, Mr. Kemal Olgaç, Mr. Ertan Fırat, Mr. Okan Utkueri, Mr. Muhittin Yurt, Mr. Bülent Somuncu, Mr. İlker Aycı and Mr. Yusuf Cemil Satoğlu have been elected as Board Members. Mr. Murat Güvenel, Mr. Mustafa Akan and Mr. Ramazan Ülger have become the Members of the Board of Supervisers and Mr. Giray Velioğlu, Mr. Cahit Nomer and Mr. Mehmet Aydoğdu have become Members of the Disciplinary Board. 
     

    48th Regular General Meeting of the Turkish Lloyd was held

     

    The 48th Regular General Meeting of the Turkish Lloyd was held on 28 April 2007.

    During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Yücel Odabaşı made a speech about the activities of the institution. After the balance sheet and the Report of the Supervisory Board were read, the Boards of Management and Supervision were acquitted.

    As a result of the voting procedure, the elections for the Executive Board were held. Mr. Mustafa İnsel, Mr. Erhan Tunçay, Mr. Fazıl Uzun, Mr. Ahmet Paksoy, Mr. Ümit Ülgen, Mr. Hüseyin Yunak, Mr. Ahmet Aslan, Mr. Halim Mete ve Mr. Celal Çiçek were elected as Board Members; Mr. Abdülkadir Küçük, Mr. Ali Önder and Mr. Mehmet Taylan were elected as Members of the Supervisory Board.
     

    Turkey’s EU Harmonization Report was published

     

    Turkey’s EU Harmonization Report was introduced in a press conference held by the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Abdullah Gül and Minister of State and Chief Negotiator, Mr. Ali Babacan on 17 April 2007.

    The Report is 412 pages long and envisages the coming into force of 200 laws and 600 secondary legislation within a period of 7 years.

    The Report also sets a timetable for the coming into force of insurance legislation in various fields and branches.

    The Association paid a study visit to the Spanish Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies (UNESPA) on 16 April 2007

     

    The Association attaches utmost importance to establishing a steady and functioning dialogue platform with other national associations in the Single European Insurance Market.

    Within this context, the Association paid a study visit to the Spanish Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies (UNESPA) on 16 April 2007.

    During the meeting, the Association, its structure and functioning mechanism were introduced by a thorough powerpoint presentation, ideas and experiences were exchanged on various issues including the position of the Spanish insurance market within the European Union and how the market copes with the challenges of the single insurance market.

    UNESPA also made a presentation about its structure, activities and the Spanish insurance market. Upon request from the Association, UNESPA also introduced the structure and functioning of the Spanish motor insurance sector and the direct settlement agreement system in Spain.

    The Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey (TSRSB) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) convened an “International Seminar on Awareness and Education relative to Risks and Insurance Issues”, on 13 April 2007 at Swissôtel, in Istanbul, Turkey.

    The presentations made during the seminar highlighted the need for increased awareness and specific education on risks and insurance issues in both developed and developing countries. The seminar also contributed to enhancing the responsiveness of governments, financial institutions, insurance market players as well as consumers with regard to the importance of appropriate information disclosure and education on risks and insurance issues and to examine countries’ experience, progress and good practices in this area.

    High-level governmental officials from regulatory and supervisory authorities, industry experts and academics from OECD countries and non-OECD members’ economies attended the event from 24 countries and 7 international organizations, as well as the representatives of the Turkish insurance sector.
