Turkish Insurance Law No: 5684, published by the Association in Turkish and English, is being disseminated

Turkish Insurance Law No: 5684 which was published by the Association both in Turkish and English is being disseminated to Turkish insurance companies, public authorities, insurance associations and federations, international organizations and all related parties. 
 

The Association participated to the CEA Single Market Committee Meeting

On 3 October 2007, the Association participated to the CEA Single Market Committee Meeting held in Brussels. During the meeting, the Association was represented by Ms. Berna Ozsar Kumcu, EU Specialist and Mr. Tolga Ceylantepe, Legal Specialist of the Association.

During the meeting, EC Green Book on Retail Financial Services was discussed in detail, as well as the other issues on the agenda, like the competition inquiry held by the European Commission and Single Market Committee priorities.
 

The Association had a meeting with the authorities of the General Directorate of Security

On 3 October 2007, the Association had a meeting with the authorities of the General Directorate of Security, Department of Public Order.

During the meeting, a presentation was made on the issues jointly held by the Association and the General Directorate of Security and the latest data on auto theft. It was stated during the meeting that with increasing cooperation between the two institutions, there has been a decrease of 30% in the number of stolen cars.

At the end of the meeting, a plaque was presented by Mr. Yakup Aktaş, Head of the Public Order Department to Mr. Erhan Tunçay, Secretary General of the Associaton, for the contribution of the Association to the combat against auto theft.
 

The Association had a meeting with the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey

On 5 October 2007, Ms. Berna Ozsar Kumcu, EU Specialist of the Association, had a meeting with Mr. Güray Vural, Sector Manager: Macroeconomics, Financial Services, Industrial Policy, Economic and Monetary Policy of the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey.

During the meeting, the Turkish insurance sector, its main indicators and the developments in the EU harmonization process were introduced by a thorough powerpoint presentation. During the presentation, the Association also provided information on the regulatory developments with due emphasis on the new Insurance Law and Mr. Vural was presented copies of the English version of the Law.

The meeting took place before the publication of Turkey’s 2007 Progress Report by the European Commission in November 2007 and detailed information has been given concerning the Turkish insurance market and its harmonization with the EU single insurance market.
 

The Association had a meeting with the Secretariat General for EU Affairs

On 5 October 2007, Ms. Berna Ozsar Kumcu, EU Specialist of the Association, had a meeting with Mr. Devrim Kodakçı, TAIEX Expert of the Secretariat General for EU Affairs.

During the meeting, the Association’s project application to the TAIEX Office (Technical Assistance Information Exchange Unit) of the EU Commission DG Enlargement for technical assistance on reinsurance and insurance groups (supplementary supervision) was discussed in detail.

The Undersecretariat for EU Affairs has been content with the Association’s project and the topics enshrined in the proposal and will be positive in its assessment.

If the application is accepted, the project will take place in early 2008. As remembered, the Association had previously held a two day seminar on “EU Insurance Legislation” on 23-24 June 2005, with TAIEX assistance.
 

The Third National Insurance Symposium was held on 18 October 2007

The Third National Insurance Symposium, entitled “Turkish Insurance Sector in Year 2010” was held on 18 October 2007 at Ceylan Intercontinental Hotel in cooperation with the Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey and the Turkish Insurance Institute. The opening speeches of the symposium were delivered by Mr. Hulusi Taşkıran, the President of the Association and Mr. Ahmet Genç, General Director of Insurance, Undersecretariat of Turkish Treasury.

During the symposium sessions were held on “Global Warming and the Insurance Sector”, “Mortgage and Mortgage Insurance” and “Assessment of the Turkish Insurance Law and Related Regulations for the Development of the Insurance Sector”.
